Conventional metal braces
Conventional metal braces consist of three main components
- Brackets: these are flat metal elements that are bonded to each individual tooth using a special adhesive.
- Archwire: a thin wire that connects the brackets together and guides the teeth into the correct position.
- Elastic modules: these are small elastic rings that are fixed around the brackets and hold the archwire in place. Elastic modules can be transparent or coloured. They give uniqueness to the braces, making them more cheerful. The experience of wearing braces also becomes more fun, especially for children, but not only.
Advantages of wearing fixed metal braces
- Affordable price at very good quality.
- Suitable for any dento-maxillary anomaly.
- Extremely robust, mainly because they are made of metal.
- There is a choice of coloured elastic bands, which makes it a fun accessory for children and teenagers.

Disadvantages of fixed metal appliances
- They are very visible, not best choice from an aesthetic point of view.
- Requires rigorous oral hygiene to remove plaque from the surface of teeth and braces (brushing teeth after each meal with a manual or electric toothbrush, interdental toothbrush, floss).
- Metal brackets can create discomfort inside the mouth.
- Cannot be removed by the patient.
- May cause allergic reaction to metal (very rare).
